Ex-Hobart coach, mayor Dalke dies at 72

   HOBART — Phil Dalke, mayor of Hobart since 1997 and former football and wrestling coach at Hobart High School, died Tuesday night at an Oklahoma City hospital of heart failure. Services will be today at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hobart.

   Dalke, 72, was high school principal at Hobart from 1975 through 1980 and was superintendent of schools from 1980 until his retirement from the school system in 1988.

   He was football coach at Hobart from 1965 through 1974, compiling a 75-32-5 record. Hobart won Class B state championships in 1967 and 1968 with 12-2 and 11-2-1 records. Nine of his 10 Hobart teams had winning records.

   Dalke also coached Hobart to state wrestling titles in 1967 and 1970. Dalke also coached football and wrestling at Classen High School from 1959 through 1964.

   He was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1977 and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame last year.
